Hey, there!
My name's Melissa, but you can call me Ari! I'm the main admin here at Heroes of Hogwarts, and Ari have something to say.
So, I know some of you might not have too much skill when it comes to coding, but you know what? I don't either. When I first started role playing on site hosts like Proboards, I didn't use templates or anything, we just posted ((God, I sound old lol I'm only 22)) and everything was cool. Then I joined a site where they used posting templates and coding for forms and other stuff. Sure it was a bit tougher, but hey, they look really cool.
What I am here to talk about today, is that exact thing: coding. There are several things you need to know, but let's start at a simple step. Finding the bits in the code that need filling out. If you've got a computer, you can simply Ctrl+F and find the thing you want. On a phone, you will have to scroll around a bit, but that's no big thing unless you're super busy. Which is understandable, honestly.
Thankfully, PB also has the option to switch between the code and the preview, so you can see what you're up against and what you're doing, alternately of course.
Then there's the menu bar above the text space. It shows things like bold, italics, underline, add a link, add an image, and the list goes on. Bold, italics, and underline will show up in BBCode as [ b ] [ /b ], [ i ] [ /i ], and [ u ] [ /u ] respectively. These are called opening and closing tags. The ones with the slash are closing tags and the ones without it are the opening tags. The link tags will show up as [ a href="" ] [ /a ] and you insert the link in between the quote marks.
On that note, there are also forums that help beginner coders, like Adoxography 2.0 (which is a great community, I highly suggest joining), Slightly Insane. There's more traffic on Adoxography, so definitely join that if you need a helping hand in coding. I'm usually on every couple ish days.
I hope thistles youLl, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me or message me on Kik @purpledragonslay3r.
